VP: Türkiye-Azerbaijan alliance to shape future of Middle Corridor trade route
The future of the Middle Corridor, the trade route stretching from the Great Wall of China to Europe, will be shaped by the steadfast alliance between Türkiye and Azerbaijan, Turkish Vice-President Cevdet Yılmaz has said.
Speaking at the 12th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, Yılmaz described the corridor—often dubbed the “Silk Road of the 21st century”—as more vital than ever in bilateral relations, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
“Attention is focused on the Middle Corridor passing through the Caspian,” Yılmaz said.
“However, turning this potential into a logistical reality is in our hands. In this way, we will lay the foundations for a modern Silk Road. The future of trade from the Great Wall of China to Europe will be determined by the unwavering alliance between Türkiye and Azerbaijan.”
Yılmaz added that both countries are exploring the possibility of signing a free trade agreement and are aiming to cooperate on investments in third countries. “This will be reflected in the new Action Plan of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission,” he said.
Details of the updated Action Plan were also revealed, including the creation of joint industrial training centres. The plan will also cover agricultural cooperation agreements and programmes for exchanging expertise across a wide range of sectors, from healthcare and tourism to banking.
