Washington breakthroughs unlock new era for Azerbaijan’s growth, minister of economy declares
Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov has hailed the outcomes of President Ilham Aliyev’s recent visit to Washington, describing them as a pivotal step toward unlocking new development opportunities for the country.
His remarks came during a special session of the Cabinet of Ministers dedicated to evaluating the strategic gains made during the US trip, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Jabbarov pointed to the initialing of the Agreement on Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia as a historic breakthrough, one that promises to reinforce regional stability and enable transformative infrastructure projects.
“The advancement of peace and the creation of new transport corridors will generate highly favorable conditions for Azerbaijan’s long-term economic development,” he stated.
The minister underscored that these achievements are the product of President Ilham Aliyev’s “wise and visionary leadership,” characterizing them as both a diplomatic triumph and a restoration of historical justice for the Azerbaijani people.
“This is a vivid example of our esteemed president’s political acumen and his unwavering ability to defend Azerbaijan’s national interests on the global stage,” Jabbarov noted.
One of the most consequential developments from the Washington visit, he added, was the agreement to repeal Section 907 — a long-standing amendment to the US Foreign Assistance Act that restricted direct aid to Azerbaijan. Originally passed by the US Congress in 1992, the provision has been a point of contention in bilateral relations for over three decades.
“The move to eliminate Section 907 signifies that Azerbaijani-American relations have now entered a qualitatively new phase,” Jabbarov emphasized, framing the repeal as a major diplomatic success and a gateway to deeper economic and strategic cooperation with the United States.
The minister concluded by affirming that these breakthroughs would enhance Azerbaijan’s regional influence and accelerate its integration into the global economy.
