Zangazur corridor out of Armenia's checking Caliber.Az responds to rumours in Armenian media
On June 14, the Armenian news service “Azatutyun” (Radio Liberty), after the recent statement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, published "sensational" details regarding the "simplified regime" that will link Western Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
The news service stated that “Azerbaijani cargo and passengers entering the territory of Armenia will first be checked by Russian border guards, and then by the customs service of Armenia. Further, the crossing will be accompanied by an Armenian special security team, which will include at least one Russian officer.”
However, as well-informed sources told Caliber.Az, the information published in “Azatutyun” is false and is aimed at inspiring the Armenian public.
In reality, negotiations are underway that Azerbaijani cargo and passengers from the western regions of Azerbaijan to Nakhchivan will be checked only by Russian border guards. Customs and border inspection by Armenia is not envisaged, the informed sources added.
As for the information about further escort by representatives of Armenia, this is not a subject of negotiations, but, at best, the figment of Armenian imagination.
