Armenian MoD discusses situation on Lachin road with EU technical assessment team

Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikian discussed the situation around the Lachin road on January 10 with representatives of an EU technical assessment team headed by Marcin Vidra.

According to Caliber.Az citing the Armenian media, the press service of the Armenian Defense Ministry reported on this meeting.

"Papikian expressed his gratitude for the role of observers in the process of establishing stability in the region and assured that the defense ministry is ready to support the new mission. The interlocutors also reviewed the results of the first EU observer mission to Armenia", the ministry's statement said. 

The EU representatives held talks with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan earlier in the day.

Caliber.Az recalls, that the first EU observer mission arrived in Armenia on October 19 and worked until December 19, with a new team having arrived in Armenia to assess the situation the following day.

The purpose of the visit was to prepare the ground for the deployment of a new monitoring mission in 2023.

According to preliminary data, the new mission could begin its work in January-February this year.
