Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company expands fleet with new dry cargo ship
Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Closed Joint-Stock Company (ASCO) has taken another major step under its Strategic Shipping Development Program, approved by the company’s Supervisory Board.
This move includes the successful acquisition of a second Handysize dry cargo ship, furthering ASCO’s efforts to expand its activities beyond the Caspian Sea.
Mehman Mehdiyev, the head of ASCO’s press service, confirmed to Caliber.Az that the acquisition was financed through funds generated from bonds issued by the company. The new vessel, named Murovdag in accordance with an order by President Ilham Aliyev, will contribute to ASCO’s growing global fleet.
Like the first Handysize vessel, Khojaly, commissioned in May this year, the Murovdag has a deadweight of 38,000 tons. The ship is 179.9 meters long, 30 meters wide, has a side height of 15 meters, a draft of 10.47 meters, and can reach a maximum speed of 15.7 knots. Its shallow draft at full load allows easy access to many shallow water ports, further enhancing its operational flexibility.
Built in Japan in 2020, Murovdag complies with international environmental standards, is fuel-efficient, and is equipped with state-of-the-art safety systems.
With an unlimited range, the vessel will make its maiden voyage from China to Ecuador, and from there to Colombia. It is expected to reach its destination in December.
