Azerbaijan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have assessed the first auction on renewable energy and other projects which will be implemented within the upcoming COP29 event.

“In a meeting with Grzegorz Zieliński, Director, Head of Energy Europe, for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Abu Dhabi, we discussed the activities of the Energy Efficiency Fund, the implementation of pilot projects in the field of energy efficiency, the Azerbaijan (Nakhchivan)-Türkiye-Europe energy line, the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe green energy corridor, connection of 1 GW solar-wind energy projects to the grid, cooperation on energy system modernisation. We evaluated the first renewable energy auction and other projects to be implemented on the eve of COP29,” Caliber.Az reports citing Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov’s message on X.

To recap, Baku will host the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).

A group of Eastern European countries has chosen Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to host COP29 climate talks next year.

Earlier, Bulgaria withdrew its candidacy to host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in favour of Azerbaijan.

Moreover, Baku and Yerevan agreed to support each other at some international venues. In a joint statement, Armenia said it would support Azerbaijan's bid to host the COP29 summit.

The conference is being held in rotation by five UN regional groups, and Eastern Europe will take part next year.
