In a significant step towards bolstering bilateral cooperation, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing efforts in the fight against corruption.
The memorandum was signed during a meeting between Azerbaijan's Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev and a delegation led by Askhat Zhumagali, Chairman of Kazakhstan's Anti-Corruption Agency, who is on a working visit to Azerbaijan, AZERTAC reports.
During the meeting, Kamran Aliyev emphasized the strong and evolving relationship between the two nations, which is rooted in a shared history, culture, and religion, and further solidified by their collaboration within the Organization of Turkic States. He attributed the robust bilateral relations to the joint political efforts of President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan.
Prosecutor General Aliyev highlighted the systematic and comprehensive measures taken by Azerbaijan in combating corruption. These measures, driven by the political will and leadership of the state, include legal and institutional reforms, the enhancement of national anti-corruption legislation, and the modernization of the prosecutor's office activities. He also noted Azerbaijan's ongoing efforts to rebuild and develop the Karabakh region, mentioning Kazakhstan's contribution to constructing the Center for Peace and Development in Fuzuli city as a testament to the strong fraternal ties between the two countries.
Aliyev also mentioned that Azerbaijan is set to host two prestigious international events later this year: the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the 29th annual conference and general meeting of the International Association of Prosecutors.
Askhat Zhumagali, expressing his commitment to developing relations with Azerbaijan, highlighted the high level of existing economic, political, social, and cultural ties between the two nations. He praised Azerbaijan's extensive experience in combating corruption and underscored the importance of sharing expertise in this critical area.
The meeting was also attended by Alim Bayel, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan.
The signing of the MoU marks a pivotal moment in the continued partnership between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, reinforcing their mutual dedication to combating corruption and enhancing legal and institutional cooperation.
