Azerbaijan launches special COP29 visa portal

06 September 2024 09:22

In preparation for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which is set to be held in Baku from November 11-22, 2024, the Azerbaijani government has implemented various measures to assist dignitaries, delegations, and other attendees with their travel arrangements.

As part of these efforts, the COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company has introduced a special portal for obtaining the COP29 Special Visa, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

The newly launched online platform, accessible at www.evisa.gov.az/cop29, has been developed in collaboration with the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of Azerbaijan. It functions as a module of the ASAN Visa Portal, designed to simplify the visa application process for COP29 participants.

To serve attendees from nearly 200 countries expected at the event, the portal is available in English, German, French, Spanish, Hebrew, Italian, Russian, Arabic, Persian, Chinese, and Korean. The platform offers 24/7 support and a fully electronic, paperless visa process. It is essential for officials, delegations, and other guests seeking the COP29 Special Visa to first complete registration via the UNFCCC's online system.

After completing this step, the COP29 Special Visa can be acquired at no cost within three business days. Comprehensive instructions for obtaining the COP29 Special Visa are provided in an electronic manual and an instructional animation.

Baku will host the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29). A group of Eastern European countries has chosen Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to host COP29 climate talks next year. Earlier, Bulgaria withdrew its candidacy to host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in favour of Azerbaijan. Moreover, Baku and Yerevan agreed to support each other at some international venues. In a joint statement, Armenia said it would support Azerbaijan's bid to host the COP29 summit. The conference is being held in rotation by five UN regional groups, and Eastern Europe will take part next year.
