Azerbaijan to facilitate global seafarer mobility through new maritime deals
Azerbaijan plans to sign memorandums of cooperation with Poland, Croatia, Germany, and Latvia to facilitate the smooth operation of Azerbaijani seafarers on vessels under various flags, as well as seafarers from these countries in Azerbaijan.
Khatira Mehdiyeva, head of the Interstate Relations Department of the State Maritime and Port Agency of Azerbaijan, made this announcement during the round table titled “Azerbaijan - Crossroads of Transcontinental Mega-Routes: East-West and North-South", Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Mehdiyeva shared that Azerbaijan has already signed several memorandums of understanding in the maritime sector over the past two years, with a range of countries from the Middle East and Far East to European partners.
“In addition, we have special agreements on the mutual recognition of seafarers' diplomas in accordance with international conventions. These documents enable both our seafarers and foreign specialists to work freely on vessels under different flags. We have already concluded memorandums with Korea, Serbia, and Kazakhstan,” Mehdiyeva explained.
She further emphasized that internal state procedures are currently underway to sign similar agreements with Poland, Croatia, Germany, and Latvia.
“It is noteworthy that these very countries themselves initiated the signing of these memorandums, which indicates the growing importance of Azerbaijan in this sphere,” Mehdiyeva added.
