Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan discuss streamlining travel with biometric passports
Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan are exploring a future where biometric passports could replace traditional foreign passports for cross-border travel, a move that promises to streamline border crossings and deepen bilateral ties.
According to Uzbek media reports, discussions have already taken place between officials from Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Azerbaijan’s State Migration Service, with diplomats from both nations contributing to the talks, per Caliber.Az.
The focus was on the potential to recognize biometric ID cards as valid travel documents between the two countries.
Should this proposal be approved, it would allow citizens to travel with just their biometric IDs, bypassing the need for foreign passports.
This move is expected to enhance ease of movement, strengthen diplomatic and economic relations, and open doors to greater cooperation in migration policies.
The decision is also likely to bolster trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, offering citizens a more convenient and accessible means of connecting with one another.
