Azerbaijani government agencies encounter surging number of cyber threats since early 2024
From January through February 2025, Azerbaijan's State Service for Special Communication and Information Security detected 262 indicators of cyberattacks (IOCs) targeting government institutions, marking a 42% increase compared to the same period last year.
Of these, 92 cyber threats were identified and blocked through internal investigations, while 170 were uncovered during probes into incidents reported by state agencies, Caliber.Az reports, citing the state service's data.
February alone saw 120 cyberattacks—38% more than in February 2023—underscoring a growing cyber threat landscape.
During the reporting period, authorities took extensive countermeasures. Through the AzStateNet network, 95.895 million malicious links were blocked, while the central antivirus system installed on end-user devices intercepted 1,099,700 threats.
Additionally, the Sandbox protection system prevented 26,917 malicious electronic documents from compromising government networks.
