Azerbaijani sappers defuse over 300 landmines in liberated lands Mine Action Agency’s report
The Mine Action Agency of the Azerbaijan Republic (ANAMA) has released its weekly report (September 23- 29) on demining operations conducted in the Azerbaijani territories liberated from occupation.
During the reporting period, a total of 113 anti-personnel mines, 217 anti-tank mines, and 450 unexploded ordnance were discovered and defused in Tartar, Aghdara, Kalbajar, Aghdam, Khojaly, Khankendi, Khojavend, Lachin, Shusha, Fuzuli, Gubadli, Jabrayil and Zangilan districts. An area of 1,128 hectares was cleared of mines and unexploded ordnance, ANAMA told Caliber.Az.
Demining operations in Azerbaijan are a collaborative initiative involving ANAMA, the Defence Ministry, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and the State Border Service. Their concerted efforts aim to secure liberated areas, facilitating the return of civilians and the resumption of normal life. ANAMA's ongoing activities demonstrate Azerbaijan's commitment to post-conflict reconstruction and humanitarian support in regions impacted by conflict.
These successful operations highlight the dedication of ANAMA and its partners in reducing the dangers posed by explosive remnants of war, thereby promoting recovery and development in these territories.
Following the liberation of Azerbaijani lands from Armenian occupation, reports suggest that land mines were deliberately planted by Armenia as part of its military strategy. These mines, designed to harm civilians and hinder the return of displaced individuals, pose a big threat in the region.
