Azerbaijani top official: Time to abolish EU border mission in Armenia as delimitation advances

01 September 2024 12:17

Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration, has said that Azerbaijan and Armenia reached an agreement on the regulations for the border delimitation process, establishing a foundation and framework to carry out the procedure.

The delimitation process will be conducted on a bilateral basis in a spirit of mutual understanding, Caliber.Az reports.

Hajiyev emphasized that the border delimitation process between Azerbaijan and Armenia is purely bilateral.

"Given that the process is unfolding in conditions of peace and mutual understanding between the two states, we believe there is no longer a need for the European Union border mission, which operates from the Armenian side near the Azerbaijani border. It is time to abolish it," Hajiyev stated.

He also criticised recent statements made by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, describing them as contradictory and not corresponding to reality.

Hajiyev also accused Armenia of pursuing a policy of militarization: “Armenia is pursuing a policy of militarization, this is a fact. It is seriously supported by a number of Western countries, especially France. This serves to create tension in the South Caucasus region.”
