Bako Sahakyan confirms arms flow from Armenia to Karabakh During testimony at Baku Military Court
Bako Sahakyan, a defendant in an ongoing trial concerning Armenia's military aggression against Azerbaijan, revealed crucial details regarding the flow of weapons into Karabakh.
His testimony, made in response to questions from state prosecutors during a court session at the Baku Military Court, provided significant insight into the arms flow that fueled the conflict, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azertag.
Sahakyan confirmed that weapons were present in both villages and towns in Karabakh. He explained, "Some of the weapons were from the stationed Soviet military units. Additionally, there was a supply of weapons from Armenia. These were the main directions regarding armament."
The court proceedings are part of a larger case involving citizens of the Republic of Armenia, who face charges of committing war crimes, crimes against peace, and humanity. These charges include the preparation and conduct of an aggressive war, genocide, violations of international laws of war, terrorism, financing terrorism, as well as forcibly seizing power and unlawfully maintaining it.
Bako Sahakyan, along with other Armenian individuals, is currently involved in a trial in Azerbaijan for war crimes committed during the Karabakh conflict. Sahakyan served as the self-declared "president" of the unrecognized “Nagorno-Karabakh Republic”, a territory controlled by Armenian forces but internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan. He is accused of involvement in numerous criminal activities, including the preparation and execution of a war of aggression, genocide, terrorism, and violations of international law during both the First and Second Karabakh Wars.
Others involved in the trial include high-ranking officials and military figures such as Arayik Harutyunyan, Arkadi Ghukasyan, and Davit Babayan, who are accused of direct leadership in the illegal armed formations that operated in the region under Armenia's influence. These individuals are charged with crimes, including planning and initiating war, human rights violations, and war crimes during the 2020 Karabakh conflict and earlier hostilities.
The ongoing court proceedings, taking place at the Baku Military Court, are examining their roles in the military aggression against Azerbaijan, the use of illegal armed groups, and the widespread atrocities committed during the conflict.
