Baku hosts meeting of Diocesan Council

Under the chairmanship of His Eminence Archbishop Theophylact of Pyatigorsk and Circassia, Acting Administrator of the Baku and Azerbaijan Diocese, a meeting of the Diocesan Council was held in the Baku Diocesan Administration on September 22.

Reports of the heads of diocesan departments and commissions were heard at the gathering and topical issues of diocesan life were discussed, Caliber.Az informs, citing the statement of the Baku and Azerbaijan Diocese.

Having listened to the reports of the Secretary of the Diocesan Administration and the rectors of city churches on the financial assistance from Azerbaijan’s president received to support the statutory activities of the Baku Diocese, and on the completion of large-scale repair and restoration work in the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin and the Church of the Archangel Michael in Baku, the Council expressed gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev for his attention to the needs of the country's Orthodox community, for material support, and assistance in the restoration and renovation of religious and historical monuments.

The Diocesan Council noted that the assistance allocated from the president's reserve financial fund is spent mainly on socially significant educational and cultural projects, on promoting the ideas of multiculturalism and interreligious dialogue, and on work related to the study of the history and culture of Azerbaijan.
