Baku to host pioneering investment forum on energy transition
Baku will serve as the venue for the inaugural Investment Forum on Energy Transition in Central Asia, scheduled for November 15-16, 2024.
The event, organized by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, will take place during COP29, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The forum aims to advance practical actions in climate finance, emphasizing support for renewable energy transition projects in Central Asia.
This two-day forum will unite global and regional stakeholders to foster investment in renewable energy initiatives.
November's COP29 will be hosted by Azerbaijan, a decision finalized during the COP28 plenary session in Dubai on December 11, 2023. Baku is expected to become the epicentre of global climate discussions, anticipating the arrival of approximately 70,000 to 80,000 international attendees.
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), established at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992, aims to address human impact on the climate system. The Conference of the Parties (COP), which includes 198 member countries, oversees the implementation of the UNFCCC. COP meetings are held annually, with the first conference taking place in March 1995 in Berlin, and the secretariat based in Bonn.
