Defence Ministry hosts media tour to commemorate Gubadli liberation anniversary

25 October 2024 11:43

In commemoration of the fourth anniversary of the liberation from occupation, a media tour was organised in the Gubadli district.

The Ministry of Defence arranged the event, which included representatives from the media, military experts, and veterans of the Patriotic War, Caliber.Az reports.

Journalists were briefed on the strategic significance of the Gubadli district and the heights located there, as well as the advantages of their liberation for the Azerbaijani Army.

During the media tour, servicemen who participated in the liberation of Gubadli shared their combat experiences.

Participants were informed that after the liberation of Mount Gartyz from Armenian occupation, much of the Gubadli district came under the control of the Azerbaijani Army.

It was noted that Mount Gartyz held particular strategic importance during the war. The liberation of this and other heights in the region allowed for the control of surrounding villages, supply routes, and communications.

An officer of the Azerbaijani Army, who took part in the Patriotic War, recounted, “When we entered Gubadli, the enemy was located in Khanlyk. Thanks to the determination and unity of the Azerbaijani Army, the occupiers gradually retreated towards Mount Gartyz and then into the more distant villages.”

The serviceman added that Mount Gartyz is the key height in the area, from which the entire territory of Gubadli can be monitored. After the liberation of this height, the last village in the district was also cleared of enemy forces.

The officer's statement was corroborated by other Azerbaijani servicemen, who noted that following the liberation of Mount Gartyz, the Gubadli district was quickly cleared of occupiers.

“On October 13 and 14, four villages in the district were liberated from occupation, and on October 25, the entire district was reclaimed,” he stated.

Notably, the Azerbaijani Army liberated the Gubadli district from occupation on 25 October 2020.
