French National Commission: Azerbaijan should be supported in demining liberated lands
Chairman of the French National Commission for the Elimination of Anti-Personnel Mines (CNEMA) Gerard Chesnel has said that Azerbaijan should be supported in demining the territories liberated from occupation.
“A huge number of mines had been planted in the liberated Azerbaijani territories. The mines are very close to each other, which is difficult to explain from a military point of view. In any case, according to the norms of international law, the defeated country must itself clear the territories it has left of mines. However, Armenia does not comply with the norms of international law,” Chesnel told Report.
He noted that there are experienced demining specialists in Azerbaijan.
“Today, Azerbaijan is forced to clear these territories from mines itself and is actively working to do this. There are enough competent specialists in Azerbaijan to cope with this, and they demonstrate high professionalism,” he added.
The chairman of the commission noted that foreign countries should help Azerbaijan in this issue.
“We regret that people suffer because of mines planted by Armenians in the liberated territories. As a result of mine explosions, innocent civilians are killed or become disabled. In this issue, financial assistance should be rendered to Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan should be provided with the necessary funds for the treatment of disabled people. Our commission will render assistance to Azerbaijan,” he said.
