Iran prioritizes Moscow relations, Pezeshkian tells Putin
Iran is ready to sign a comprehensive cooperation treaty with Moscow, potentially during the BRICS summit in Russia this October.
Iranian President-elect Massoud Pezeshkian conveyed this to Russian President Vladimir Putin during a phone call, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
"The preparation of documents for the comprehensive cooperation agreement between Iran and Russia has been completed," Pezeshkian emphasized.
He reiterated that Tehran places special importance on its relations with Moscow and is committed to strengthening ties with Russia.
Pezeshkian, a former health minister and seasoned parliamentarian, won the presidency of the Islamic Republic of Iran with 53.6 per cent of the vote in a decisive runoff election. His surprising win over the ultraconservative Saeed Jalili suggests a possible transformation in Iran's political environment, offering renewed optimism to reformist factions following years of conservative rule.
Following the elections, Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov highlighted Russia's hopes for Iran's continued success under its new president.
