Iran’s FM faces impeachment threat over social media posts
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is facing the threat of impeachment following criticism from a member of parliament over his recent social media activity.
Iranian lawmaker Morteza Mahmoudi accused Araghchi of repeatedly making “untimely” statements during what he described as a sensitive wartime period, arguing that the minister’s remarks have been inappropriate given the current circumstances.
According to Caliber.Az, Mahmoudi wrote in a post on X that “if it were not for the war, Araghchi would have resigned over his message on Twitter.” He emphasised that this was not an isolated incident, claiming that the foreign minister had previously made “strange and untimely statements” at critical moments.
Mahmoudi also warned that such comments could have broader consequences, saying they influence global oil and energy markets.
