Islamic Development Bank seeks new projects in Azerbaijan, president says
The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) is looking to expand its cooperation with Azerbaijan and implement new projects in the country, the bank’s president, Mohammed Al-Jasser, told reporters during a visit to the country.
Al-Jasser said he had visited the liberated territories of Fuzuli, Khankandi and Shusha and described the pace of reconstruction and infrastructure development as highly impressive. He noted that he had previously visited Shusha two years ago and said the city had since been transformed significantly, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
According to the IDB president, restoration work at cultural and religious sites, including mosques, stood out during the visit. He added that the new mosque under construction in Shusha would become a major landmark once completed.
Al-Jasser said the delegation received detailed briefings on ongoing projects and development plans in the region. He added that he was leaving Azerbaijan with positive impressions, describing Shusha as a city that is regaining its role as the country’s cultural capital.
During the visit, the delegation also toured an industrial zone and met with business representatives, who, according to Al-Jasser, expressed confidence in Azerbaijan’s economic growth potential.
He said the visit was also intended to reaffirm the Islamic Development Bank’s commitment to cooperation with Azerbaijan and stressed that the institution was interested in launching new projects in the country.
Al-Jasser described Azerbaijan as a country with strong development prospects, adding that its leadership was pursuing an accelerated development path. He also praised the country’s young generation, calling them educated and committed to their homeland and future.
The IDB president said he looked forward to returning to Azerbaijan in June for the annual meeting of the Islamic Development Bank Group, which is scheduled to take place in Baku.
