Political scientist Kiviryan: West interested in Azerbaijan, not in Armenia

21 November 2023 11:17

Political analyst Argishti Kiviryan opined in his interview with Armenian media that the West has oil and other interests in Azerbaijan and has no interests in Armenia.

"You know, the fact that Armenia asked the CSTO partners to withdraw the document on assistance to the country from the agenda is a step conditioned by the commitments Armenia has made to the West. That is, it is obvious that the West has set several conditions before Armenia, and they are not new, they are conditions set in recent years," he said, according to Caliber.Az.

"Now these conditions are being steadily fulfilled by Pashinyan and his team. One of them is that the policy of these authorities should not serve the interests of the Armenian people, whether it is in the interests of the Armenian people or not, they should try to push Russia out of this region and prevent Iran from entering. And the recent events related to the CSTO have been driven by this very thing. Whether they will come out or not, at the moment they say that it's not on the agenda, but it doesn't mean that this issue won't appear on the agenda any minute. It will have to do primarily with regional and world events that are happening," he noted.

"The problem is that nobody gives Armenia security guarantees. The Armenian authorities also realise this, but the other issue is that this does not even embarrass the Armenian authorities from a global point of view. They are ready to take steps to endanger the security of the country and to implement the programme set before them. I repeat once again: no structure gives Armenia alternative security guarantees. Who can give such guarantees? It can be NATO as a united structure and the United States as a separate superpower, but both do not have such an issue on their agenda," Kiviryan said.

"States are guided not by fine words, but by their interests. Let's look at the same France: France has an interest in Africa, and it is trying to benefit from this continent, and doing it successfully. Because there are mines there, there are minerals there. Now, what will France do when it comes to Armenia? Will it rescue the worried Armenian people? No one in the world is in a hurry to rescue some suffering nations; nations pursue each other for their own interests. Over the past three decades, the West has been solving its own issues at the expense of Armenian interests. It's not that they don't like Armenians, it's that they put Azerbaijan and Armenia on the scales. The West has oil and other interests in Azerbaijan and has no interests in Armenia; indeed, Armenia is the defeated party. The West simply decided that the problem should be solved at the expense of the weak, defeated side, and successfully did it," the political scientist said.
