Putin: CSTO not obliged to intervene in Nagorno-Karabakh conflict
The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) was not obligated to intervene militarily on behalf of Yerevan in Karabakh, as there was no external aggression against Armenia in this case, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on November 28 in Astana.
President Putin also suggested that Armenia might return to full participation in the CSTO, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
He emphasized that Armenia has not officially announced its withdrawal from the organization and continues to support all summit documents.
"I believe the current state of affairs between Armenia and the CSTO is most likely influenced by its internal political situation," he remarked.
To recall, Russian President Vladimir Putin held discussions with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on November 27 during state visit to Kazakhstan, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation across trade, economic, transport, energy, scientific, and cultural domains.
Tokayev highlighted the steady growth in mutual trade, expressing optimism about raising trade turnover to $30 billion. He also noted ongoing collaborative projects worth $18.3 billion, creating over 22,000 jobs in Kazakhstan, with plans for 49 additional projects valued at $29.5 billion.
The leaders signed a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to strong allied relations based on respect for sovereignty and mutual benefit.
