Tajikistan's Rahmon re-elected to head ruling party
The President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, has been re-elected as the Chairman of the ruling People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan (PDPT) at the party's conference congress.
His candidacy was supported by delegates at the 15th congress summit of the PDPT in the capital Dushanbe on December 18, Caliber.Az reports, referring to a press statement on the presidential website.
According to the statement, Maliksho Nematzoda was elected first deputy chairman, and Abdullozoda Umeda Bekmurod and Karimzoda Mirzoqosim were appointed deputy chairmen of the PDPT. The congress also approved the new composition of the party's Central Executive Committee, its leadership, and other party structures.
Rahmon congratulated the participants and all PDPT members on the 30th anniversary of the party's founding during his opening speech to the congress and provided an analysis of the party’s activities over the past five years.
Additionally, the congress nominated 28 party members to run in the upcoming lower house of parliament (Majlisi Namoyandagon) elections, which are scheduled for March 2 in the upcoming year. A pre-election program for the party, covering key areas of Tajikistan’s economic and social development from 2025 to 2030, was also approved. A Central Election Headquarters for the party was also established.
