Azerbaijan’s parliament abolishes Cabinet's powers to control arms exports
Azerbaijan’s parliament, the Milli Majlis, has approved a set of legal changes that will remove the government’s Cabinet of Ministers from overseeing the export of weapons and other strategic materials.
The changes were adopted within a wider package of draft amendments affecting multiple legal acts. These include revisions to the Labour Code, the Code on the Enforcement of Sentences, and several key laws governing defence, military service, law enforcement, and civil registration, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Among the laws amended are those “On Defence,” “On Veterans,” “On Approval of the Charter of Garrison and Guard Services of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan,” “On Approval of Provisions on Military Service,” “On the Police,” “On the Approval of the Regulations on the Application of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan ‘On Registration at the Place of Residence and Place of Stay,’” and “On Physical Culture and Sport.”
Lawmakers said the amendments are intended to improve the legal framework and harmonise existing legislation with the country’s current public administration structure.
