Azerbaijan, Spain eye cooperation, regional situation PHOTO
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and his Spanish counterpart Jose Manuel Albares Bueno discussed the regional situation and prospects of bilateral cooperation.
During the meeting, which was held within the framework of the 4th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Council of Europe, Jeyhun Bayramov spoke about the importance of mutual visits in the development of bilateral relations, as well as the need to intensify contacts to strengthen political dialogue, Caliber.Az reports per the foreign ministry’s website.
Additionally, Bayramov noted the existence of an agenda for cooperation in the political, humanitarian and economic fields, in the fields of energy security, culture and tourism, stressed the need to use the existing opportunities for the further development of relations, in particular the potential for the development of alternative energy.
Informing his interlocutor about the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period, about the restoration and construction work in the liberated territories, about Azerbaijan's efforts to establish peace, the Azerbaijani minister stressed that the constant military-political provocations of the Armenian side and the continuing mine threat are one of the main obstacles to progress peace process.
He also declared Azerbaijan's commitment to the peace process based on the principles of territorial integrity and sovereignty.
In turn, Bueno expressed interest in cooperation with Azerbaijan both at the bilateral level and within the framework of international organisations.
In particular, he positively assessed the role of political consultations in the development of relations between the two countries. Jose Manuel Albares Bueno noted that Spain supports the negotiation process on the normalisation of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
