Azerbaijani MFA: Causes of AZAL plane crash under investigation

Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has announced that the causes of the Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) plane crash are under investigation.

On December 25, an Embraer-190 aircraft operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, performing flight J2-8243 from Baku to Grozny, crashed near the city of Aktau while heading there for an emergency landing. A total of 67 people were on board, including 62 passengers and 5 crew members. Preliminary reports indicate that 32 people survived, with some in critical condition, Caliber.Az reports.

By the directive of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, a state commission led by Prime Minister Ali Asadov has been established to investigate the causes of the crash. Additionally, representatives of various agencies, headed by the Minister of Emergency Situations and the Minister of Digital Development and Transport, have been dispatched to Kazakhstan by presidential order. 

Since the crash, representatives of the Azerbaijani General Consulate in Aktau have been present at the crash site. Rescue teams, in coordination with Kazakh authorities, are taking urgent measures.

Moreover, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov expressed condolences to the families of the victims of the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) plane near the Kazakh city of Aktau.

“We have received with pain in our hearts and deep sorrow the news about the crash of the Azerbaijan Airlines plane near Aktau. We express our deep condolences to the families of the tragic victims, wish strength and patience, health to the injured. Allah rəhmət eləsin,” he wrote.

“Azərbaycan Hava Yolları” şirkətinə məxsus təyyarənin Aktau şəhəri yaxınlığında qəzaya uğraması xəbərini ürək ağrısı və kədər hissi ilə qarşıladıq.
