French police disperse Armenian rally in Paris Utter failure in front of the Azerbaijani Embassy

03 September 2023 12:31

The demonstrations organized by Armenians living abroad in support of the separatist regime in Azerbaijan’s Garabagh region continue to be a total failure, contrary to the organizers' claims and expectations.

France, which has long been "famous" as the second Armenian state and occasionally even acknowledges itself as such, witnessed another failure of Armenians.

On September 2, a demonstration in support of the Karabakh separatists was attempted outside the Azerbaijani Embassy in this European nation, where 650,000 Armenians are reportedly resident.

As it appears from the footage just about 15-20 people attended the event. The protesters intended to block the roadway where the diplomatic mission's building is located. However, their efforts this time were futile. The police dispersed the crowd and stopped the Armenians from provoking the situation again.

Similar protests have previously been organized by Armenian nationalists outside of Azerbaijan's diplomatic missions across the world. Most often, Armenian demonstrations descend into violence and involve vandalism against the buildings of the diplomatic missions.

For instance, on August 31, Armenian vandals targeted the Azerbaijani Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon. At the rally conducted in front of the Azerbaijani Embassy, some 50 people of Armenian descent damaged the fence and tossed bottles filled with explosive mixture and paint at the diplomatic building.

“As soon as the agency responsible for the protection of diplomatic missions was informed about the incident, the law enforcement agencies arrived at the scene, but at that time the provocateurs managed to get away from the area,” the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Moreover, on September 18, 2022, Armenian extremists in France stormed the building of the Azerbaijani embassy in Paris.

“French Armenian fanatics storm the building of the Azerbaijani embassy in Paris. But let's leave the Armenian barbarians aside. Mr Emmanuel Macron, shame on France, which does not protect embassies and ignores our fundamental requests related to our security,” Rahman Mustafayev, Azerbaijani Ambassador to France tweeted.

On October 19, 2022, French police arrested Loris Toufanian, one of the attackers on the Azerbaijani embassy in Paris. Toufanian was the former chairman of the youth branch of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation of the Dashnaktsutyun in France, who became one of the founders of the dissident group Charjoum in 2015.

“The arrest is likely due to a violent demonstration against the Azerbaijani embassy's main building,” French historian Maxime Gauin said.

Similarly, an aggressive group of Armenian radicals attacked the Azerbaijani embassy in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, on September 16, 2022.

The related video has gone viral on social media, which showed a crowd attempting to attack the diplomatic mission.

These anti-Azerbaijani protests organized by Armenian extremists residing abroad are meant to demonstrate support for their countrymen who live in Karabakh internationally recognized part of Azerbaijan.

Armenian extremists living abroad usually conduct these kinds of anti-Azerbaijani demonstrations, in support of separatists who reside in Azerbaijan’s internationally recognized Garabagh region.

Recently, Azerbaijan has been under fire from Armenia and the separatists for allegedly blocking access to Garabagh Armenians, causing a “humanitarian catastrophe” in the area.

However, the Azerbaijani government has frequently refuted these accusations, maintaining that both the Aghdam-Khankendi route and the Lachin road, which connects Armenia and Azerbaijan's Garabagh area, are available for all forms of humanitarian aid. The freedom of movement of those of Armenian descent from the Lachin checkpoint serves as further evidence that the claims of a “blockade” are completely unfounded.

The Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society also supplied 40 tons of flour goods on August 29 for delivery over the Aghdam-Khankendi route to the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan, where people of Armenian descent reside.

But so far, there has been no progress in the discussions with the separatists about the distribution of supplies along the Aghdam-Khankendi route. On the Aghdam-Khankendi road, two trucks carrying 40 tons of wheat have been waiting in front of the Russian peacekeepers' station for the past six days.

Azerbaijan installed a checkpoint at the entrance of the Lachin road on the border with Armenia in April 2023, following regular shipments of arms and ammunition through the highway. Since August 2022, a total of 2,728 landmines produced in Armenia in 2021 were detected and neutralized, 1,119 of which were in the Kalbajar and Lachin districts along the border area with Armenia, and 1,609 in the territory of the Garabagh Economic Region.

None

The illegal supplies by Armenians, under the aegis of the temporary Russian peacekeeping mission in the Garabagh region, through the Lachin road and other roads bypassing it, continued despite multiple warnings and local control measures taken by Baku, necessitating the urgent installation of the checkpoint.

Currently, the checkpoint enables free and safe movement to and from the Garabagh region, based on the legislation of Azerbaijan. It was temporarily closed twice in May and June for investigation purposes following bloody provocations committed by the Armenian military.
