Iran prepared for war while open to nuclear policy changes, says official
Dr. Kamal Kharrazi, head of Iran's Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, stated that while Iran does not seek to expand conflict, it is fully prepared for it amid ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza and Lebanon.
Kharrazi articulated Iran's readiness to respond to any escalation, underscoring the nation’s military capabilities and the possibility of adjustments to its nuclear policy in light of perceived "existential threats," Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Kharrazi highlighted Iran's deterrent capabilities, referencing Operation True Promise II, during which hundreds of ballistic missiles were launched at Israel. He indicated that the decision now lies with Israel; should they continue their aggressive actions, Iran will respond accordingly.
Addressing potential shifts in Iran's nuclear doctrine, Kharrazi noted that such changes could occur if Iran faces an "existential threat." He emphasized that Iran possesses the technical capacity to produce nuclear weapons, but the Fatwa from Iranian Leader Sayyed Ali Khamenei remains the only barrier preventing Iran from pursuing nuclear armament.
Kharrazi also mentioned that changes in policy could extend to Iran's missile programs. While Iran's missile capabilities are well-established, he indicated that current efforts focus on the ranges of missiles in response to Western concerns. However, he asserted that if Western nations fail to acknowledge Iran's sovereignty and territorial integrity, Iran may disregard their concerns and pursue the development and enhancement of missile ranges.
