Passenger train collides with freight train in Russia's Murmansk At least 14 injured

A passenger train collided with a freight train in Russia's Murmansk region.

The incident occurred at the Knyazhaya station in the Kandalaksha district, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.

Preliminary reports indicate that a stationary freight train derailed at the station, and a double-decker train traveling from Murmansk to St. Petersburg crashed into it. At least 14 people have been reported injured, including a child. The temperature in the area at the time of the crash is currently around -24°C.

The passengers said that there was a sudden braking at the Knyazhaya station. After the collision, several carriages of the passenger train overturned. The collision occurred as a result of the uncontrolled movement of the defective freight train carrying ore. The freight train collided with the rear carriages of the passenger train, which had also derailed as it descended from a slope. 

According to various reports, three or four carriages of the passenger train overturned. The incident was captured on camera by witnesses, showing the derailed carriages of both trains. In the footage, passengers can be seen trying to gather their belongings and urgently exit the train, some people without outerwear.
