Russian gas supplies to Kazakhstan reach historic high
Russia has significantly increased its natural gas exports to Kazakhstan.
The total export volume for the first eight months of 2024 reached $353.4 million, marking a historic high in bilateral trade between the two countries, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
"From January to August 2024, Kazakhstan imported natural gas worth $353.4 million from Russia, which is 2.1 times more than in the same period of last year," the message says.
During the reporting period, there was also a twofold decline in oil product exports to Kazakhstan, alongside an increase in coal and coke sales. The total volume of Russian gas imports to Kazakhstan reached record levels in the first eight months of the current year.
Kazakhstan reduced its purchases of oil products from Russia by 2.5 times in January-August, down to $191.5 million. The import of gasoline amounted to $587,000, while diesel fuel imports totaled nearly $9 million.
Moreover, Astana increased its imports of Russian coke by 15.4 per cent to $103.5 million, and coal imports rose by 1.6 times to $107.5 million. Russia's share of Georgia's natural gas imports reached a historic high of 36 per cent.
Azerbaijan remains the primary supplier of gas to Georgia, although the volume of supplies from this direction has significantly declined over the past year. Earlier, two European countries found a way to supply gas through Ukraine.
