Türkiye develops laser weapon using AI elements
Türkiye has developed laser weapons using elements of artificial intelligence.
One of its types is the ALKA-directed energy weapon system created by the Roketsan company, according to TRT Haber.
"ALKA is an innovative weapon system designed with the right artificial intelligence architecture, it is a hybrid air defence system that uses electromagnetic and laser technologies to counter asymmetric threats," the broadcaster quoted a spokesperson for the manufacturing company as saying.
The ALKA system was first unveiled at the IDEF-2019 defence exhibition in Istanbul.
According to specialised military publications, this type of weapon can be mounted on armoured vehicles and fixed objects, it is mainly designed to destroy drones, as well as remotely detonate mines and improvised explosive devices. The maximum range for jamming is 4 km, while the effective range of the drone is up to 1 km.
