The Embassy of Azerbaijan in the UK has announced that King’s College London organised discussions dedicated to the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change - COP29, which will be held in Azerbaijan next year.

UK’s prominent politicians and leading climate experts, including former Prime Minister Theresa May, Shadow Secretary of State of Climate Change and Net Zero Ed Miliband, former Energy Minister Chris Skidmore, representatives of the diplomatic corps and academic circles in London attended the event, jointly organised by the UK’s Diplomat magazine, the Institute of Politics and the Zero Emissions Coalition, the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the UK told Report.

While speaking at the opening ceremony of the conference, Theresa May called on countries to immediately implement the decisions taken at COP-28.

Ambassador of Azerbaijan to UK Elin Suleymanov noted that the unanimous support of Azerbaijan’s candidacy by all countries of the Eastern European Group, including Armenia, is the result of trust in Azerbaijan.

He said that this is a success not only for Azerbaijan, but for the entire region, and Azerbaijan will represent the entire region as the next host of the COP event.

The ambassador noted that Azerbaijan is a leader in the region in its efforts to transition to alternative energy and is expanding its activity in this sphere every day.

In turn, Miliband said that the work to be done over the next two years, including the event in Azerbaijan, will be important to achieving the goals which the governments have set for mitigating climate change.

During the event speakers described the significance of COP29 and expressed hope that concrete steps will be taken at the next session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will be held in Baku.
