UN General Assembly commends Azerbaijan's efforts in migration field

Chief of the Azerbaijani State Migration Service (SMS) Vusal Huseynov and UN General Assembly President Abdulla Shahid met in the framework of the First International Forum on Migration, held at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York.

Permanent Representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the UN Yashar Aliyev and staff of the Permanent Mission also attended the meeting, the service told Report.

During the meeting, the head of the Service thanked the President of the UN General Assembly for the constant support of Member States for the effective implementation of the "Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Legal Migration", which is the first UN agreement negotiated at the intergovernmental level on the management of international migration. Mr. Huseynov emphasized that Azerbaijan participates in the Forum as one of the 33 countries identified by the UN Global Migration Network as "Pioneer Countries" for the effective implementation of the Global Compact on Migration and also noted that useful discussions took place during the 4th roundtable co-chaired by our country.
