China dispatches over 80 block trains along Middle Corridor since early 2024
Head of the Transport Policy Department at the Coordination Council for Transit Freight Transportation under Azerbaijan's Ministry of Digital Development Fariz Aliyev has said that 87 block trains originating from China have been dispatched along the Middle Corridor (Trans-Caspian International Transport Route) since the beginning of this year.
Aliyev made these remarks at the conference entitled "Demonstration zone of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation - Promoting Logistics and Trade in Azerbaijan", Caliber.Az reports citing the local media.
He highlighted that block trains from China to their destinations varied in arrival time from 9 to 12 days.
Aliyev also mentioned the introduction of permit forms for international road transport between Azerbaijan and China as a pilot project, with 16 vehicles transporting cargo under this initiative last week.
Additionally, he noted ongoing cargo transportation between Azerbaijan and China by air and expressed plans for further cooperation expansion in this area.
The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route is a multimodal transport corridor that connects China with Europe through Central Asia, the Caspian Sea, and the Caucasus region. It involves the use of railways, maritime routes across the Caspian Sea, and potentially road transport as well. The route aims to provide a faster and more efficient alternative for cargo transportation between Asia and Europe compared to traditional routes.
