Georgian ruling party secures parliamentary majority in elections After counting from 97% of polling stations
The Georgian ruling party Georgian Dream is poised to secure a parliamentary majority following the tallying of votes from 97% of polling stations.
The country's Central Election Commission (CEC) announced that with results from 3,018 polling stations counted, 1,087,801 voters—or 54.24% of participants—cast their ballots in favour of the ruling party, Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia. Opposition parties collectively received 37.33% of the votes, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
The voter turnout in Georgia's parliamentary elections reached 58.94%, based on preliminary data. CEC Chairman Giorgi Kalandarishvili described the election, which utilized advanced technology extensively, as successfully conducted.
However, the opposition coalition, led by the former ruling party, United National Movement, and joined by the "Coalition for Change," composed of former National Movement members, has refused to acknowledge the CEC's announced results. They contest the outcome, citing concerns over the voting process and results tabulation.
Parliamentary elections were held in Georgia on October 26, 2024.
