Russia lauds Heydar Aliyev’s statesmanship, prepares monument in his honor
Russia holds the legacy of former Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev in high regard, honoring him as an exceptional statesman, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova told a weekly briefing.
Zakharova noted that in 2023, Russia marked the 100th anniversary of Aliyev's birth with commemorative events in Moscow and other Russian cities, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.
She also noted that a symbolic stone had been laid as part of the foundation for a monument to Aliyev, which is set to be installed soon in Russia.
"The upcoming installation of the monument will be an important cultural and humanitarian event for our countries," Zakharova said. She emphasized the significance of this gesture as a symbol of the enduring relationship between Russia and Azerbaijan.
In addition to the monument, Zakharova indicated that new joint projects are expected to further strengthen the ties between the two nations, continuing the spirit of cooperation and mutual respect that Aliyev championed during his presidency.
Heydar Aliyev, who served as Azerbaijan's president for several terms, is widely recognized for his contributions to the development of the country and its relations with Russia.
