Armenian analyst slams PM Pashinyan’s messianic self-image
Political analyst Suren Surenyants has sharply criticised Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan for his self-comparison to Jesus Christ, questioning why Armenian political figures present themselves as "messianic" figures.
In his latest commentary, Surenyants described Pashinyan's comparison of himself to Christ as "modest," and criticised a prominent figure who refers to the Prime Minister as Satan, claiming divine sanction for his actions, Caliber.Az reports.
Surenyants argued that such "mystical" rhetoric detracts from serious political discourse in Armenia, where he believes the quality of political thought and debate is deteriorating.
He suggested that Pashinyan's removal from office should be pursued through exposing his political inadequacies with clear, realistic arguments rather than through sensational or ideological claims.
"The collective deterioration of politics and political thought is evident in Armenia," Surenyants wrote. "Pashinyan should be removed from office, but this should be done by addressing his political vulnerabilities in a realistic and substantive manner."
