What does France stand for in the Baku-Yerevan confrontation? Interview with Dr Maxime Gauin
In an exclusive interview with Caliber.Az, Dr Maxime Gauin, Researcher at the Institute of Development and Diplomacy and Associate Professor at ADA, shared his views on the continuity between the Armenian terrorism of the 20th century and the ferocious modern extremist elements presently opposing the striking of a peace deal between Baku and Yerevan.
Dr Gauin gave his personal view on the French position regarding the Azerbaijani-Armenian peace process, downplaying President Emmanuel Macron’s increasingly visible espousal of Armenia as being a necessity of rebalancing, rather than being indicative of his doubting Azerbaijan’s sovereignty over Karabakh.
He believes that there are certain measures that France could take to improve the perception of its position amongst Azerbaijanis, particularly regarding statements supporting the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
The French expert also spoke about the impact of the Armenian diaspora in France, the Zangazur Corridor project, Armenian terrorism and unprecedented French support for Armenia.
