Azerbaijan halts operations at diplomatic missions in Libya, Syria, Odessa
Azerbaijan’s embassies in Libya and Syria, as well as its consulate general in Odesa, Ukraine, are currently not operational, according to Samad Seyidov, Chair of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) Committee on International Relations and Interparliamentary Relations.
He stated that, when the law "On Diplomatic Service" was adopted in 2001, Azerbaijan had around 40 diplomatic missions, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
“Today, there are 71 embassies, five permanent representations, one representative office in Palestine, and 15 consulates operating under Azerbaijan’s diplomatic framework.”
Notably, an international parliamentary conference titled Parliamentarism: Traditions and Prospects took place at the Milli Majlis from December 6 to 8.
The event brought together nearly 100 representatives from the parliaments of 13 countries, alongside delegates from international organizations.
Discussions focused on the evolving role of parliaments in contemporary global affairs, the preservation and advancement of parliamentary traditions, the potential of parliamentary diplomacy, and the contribution of parliamentary dialogue in addressing the pressing challenges facing the world today.
On the sidelines of the conference, a roundtable discussion, Azerbaijani and Turkish Examples of Parliaments in Public Diplomacy, was held at ADA University.
Additionally, participants toured Azerbaijan's de-occupied territories, gaining insight into the ongoing reconstruction and redevelopment efforts in these regions.
