Global elites preparing for global storm The West against the West
Recent events surrounding Ukraine have highlighted the contradictions tearing apart the modern world. The quarrel in the Oval Office of the White House is anything but a private matter related to Ukraine – it symbolizes a divide that has shaken the Western world. One can endlessly sympathize with the Ukrainian people, who are fighting for territorial integrity, but the more one re-watches the truly historic footage from Washington, the more it becomes clear that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, at that meeting, was expressing not only the interests of Ukraine but those of the global liberal camp.
However, let's not delve too deeply into the intricacies of this scandal. What is important for us to understand right now is a simple fact – perhaps, never since 1938 has the West been as divided as it is today. Old Europe needs America, but not Trump’s America; it needs America as a liberal democracy. This is why a war has been declared on Trump. In fact, to be precise, it is Trump who has declared war on the global liberal elite. Ukraine, in this war, serves as a platform for a starting leap – a place from where global-level reforms can begin.
The extraordinary European summit on Ukraine, held in London on March 2, was marked by little more than general statements and decisions. For instance, the countries agreed to work with Ukraine on a plan to cease hostilities and intend to discuss this plan with the United States. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen characterized the summit of European leaders in London as "a good and frank discussion."
It sounds rather weak, and this weakness perfectly reflects the goal of the liberals. While Trump’s aim is to quickly end the Russia-Ukraine war and focus on larger projects, the liberals’ goal is to stall the peace process, drawing the U.S. into long-running, largely fruitless negotiations with their involvement. Meanwhile, the Europeans will, of course, make a bit of an effort and continue sending aid to Ukraine. Most importantly, they hope that if direct negotiations between Washington and Moscow fail, the White House, in order to avoid losing face, will be forced to continue sending military aid to Kyiv. This joint assistance won’t lead to a turning point on the front lines, but it will be enough to stoke the fire of the conflict, keeping it burning for some time, preventing American conservatives from catching their breath and focusing on structural reforms.
Trump and his team will, of course, resist. However, before one side achieves victory, there is a great risk that the world will descend into a state of war and chaos. One of the EU bureaucrats, a former chief diplomat of the European Union, characterized the world outside of Europe in this way: "Europe is a garden, and the rest of the world is a jungle," possibly expressing not only his contempt for other peoples and cultures but also his vision of how things should unfold in the future.
A scenario is likely where the elites of old Europe, in order to prevent Trump from reshaping the world (for now, let’s refrain from a moral judgment on such a reshaping), will attempt to instigate conflicts in various parts of the planet. According to their plan, this would distract the American leader from a proactive, positive agenda, forcing him to react to various outbreaks of violence and waste precious time – and he only has four years.
It is possible that the South Caucasus is one of those points where the global liberal club will attempt to ignite the flames of war. This means that Azerbaijan must always be ready to counter such attempts, especially given that Paris, one of the pillars of the liberal club, wields significant influence over Armenia, arming and preparing it for a potential attempt at revenge.
In these conditions, it is crucial for Azerbaijan to continue relying on its own strength, which is based on a strong army, a powerful economy, and an independent foreign policy. Only the combination of these components can help maintain a powerful state. The successful policies of Ilham Aliyev have allowed the country to solve its main existential task – the restoration of territorial integrity in the most complex geopolitical conditions. This victory has cemented the solidarity between the state and the people. In this difficult period of global turmoil, such solidarity creates a solid deck, resilient to even the harshest storms.
