Pallone's anti-Azerbaijani agenda crumbles in Baku Mission failed

20 November 2024 16:02

Pro-Armenian Congressman Frank Pallone (Democrat from New Jersey), who shamefully fled Baku, failed miserably in his mission to discredit Azerbaijan on behalf of his Armenian sponsors. Pallone has long been a staunch ally of the global Armenian cause, advocating for sanctions against Azerbaijan and pushing to end military aid to the country. He also spearheaded the resolution calling for the “recognition” of the now-defunct separatist enclave of “Nagorno-Karabakh”. Along with Senator Adam Schiff and former legislator Robert Menendez, Pallone is one of the most influential pro-Armenian lobbyists in the United States.

The controversial politician, in the lead-up to COP29, fervently urged the international community to boycott the conference, making provocative statements against Azerbaijan and accusing our country of fabricated “ethnic cleansing” in Karabakh.

However, before arriving in Baku, Pallone posted a grandiose statement on his social media page X: “The United States must remain a leader in the global fight to combat the worsening climate crisis. Now more than ever, I look forward to attending the COP29 climate conference to demonstrate that America is still in this fight.”

Pallone used this post to disguise the true motives of his visit to Azerbaijan. It was obvious that his goal was not to participate in the climate conference, but rather to use the platform to advance pro-Armenian narratives.

Naturally, the visit of the US politician, who is heavily supported by the Armenian lobby, sparked strong outrage among the Azerbaijani public. On November 17, representatives from several Azerbaijani NGOs staged a protest against the provocative congressman's visit to Azerbaijan. The demonstration took place in front of the hotel where Pallone was staying, and participants demanded a public apology to the Azerbaijani people. In response, Pallone’s security team provoked a conflict, which was quickly defused by local law enforcement. But that wasn’t all.

As noted by Azerbaijani presidential assistant Hikmet Hajiyev, President Ilham Aliyev did not meet with Pallone, unlike other members of Congress. "Pallone does not deserve such an audience," Hajiyev wrote on his X platform.

Pallone's disgrace was further compounded by his refusal to engage with Azerbaijani media. In an attempt to avoid tough questions, the congressman chose to flee. As a result, to the dismay of the Armenian lobby, Pallone was unable to carry out his anti-Azerbaijani provocation in Baku.

However, upon returning to the United States, the emboldened congressman resumed his defamatory attacks on Azerbaijan.

Despite this, the successful hosting of COP29 in Baku clearly demonstrates that none of the efforts by biased Western politicians to damage Azerbaijan's image have succeeded. By offering pro-Armenian congressmen the unique opportunity to attend COP29, Baku showcased its democracy, openness to dialogue, and inclusivity to the international community.
