Pashinyan will end up paying the price for his claims of "ethnic cleansing" in Garabagh Any lie for the sake of US financial aid

26 September 2023 14:49

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is now desperately struggling to retain power. The only thing that saves him so far is that the hatred of Armenian society towards the revanchists and Garabagh clan rallying in the centre of Yerevan is much stronger than the shock of another military-political fiasco, as a result of which the "miatsum" issue has been put to bed forever.

It simply no longer exists. Azerbaijan has finally restored its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and Pashinyan's government now needs to think about how to retain its power and at the same time accommodate those Garabagh Armenians who are travelling to Yerevan, Gyumri and other cities of Armenia. Those travelling are, by the way, outraged by Nikol Vovayevich and his entire team. Their mood cannot but frighten Pashinyan. He still has an instinct of self-preservation.

He must have told about his fears during the meeting with the American delegation headed by Samantha Power, head of USAID. The delegation also included Acting Assistant Secretary of State Yuri Kim. Both these ladies have already made a number of anti-Azerbaijani statements. Moreover, Samantha Power is the author of the book "A Problem from Hell: America and the Age of Genocide", in which she lambasted the American government for its inability to recognise the "Armenian genocide".

Understanding this weakness and relentless focus on the word that pleases the world Armenians, Nikol Pashinyan told Power his version of what is happening now in the Garabagh economic region of Azerbaijan. Which, I note, is immoral and inadmissible in itself since the Armenian premier has declared more than once that he recognises the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, including the Garabagh economic region. So how to perceive his current statements now?

Yes, that's how it turns out. Pashinyan, who first shouted that "Garabagh is Armenia and full stop" and then admitted that Garabagh is Azerbaijan, tends to make moral twists and turns, disavowing himself. But still, every time watching the tricks of this pronounced populist, one wonders how he then goes to bed calmly without despising himself.

"You know that, unfortunately, at the moment the process of ethnic cleansing of Garabagh Armenians continues, it's happening right now, and it's a very tragic fact," he ushered.

He lies without batting an eyelid. His lies are easily refuted by a flurry of reports, video and photographic evidence of Garabagh Armenians travelling to Armenia in their private cars or on buses. Baku has handed over dozens of tonnes of food, fuel and medicine to Garabagh Armenians. This is a strange kind of "ethnic cleansing", isn't it?! There were no deaths in the course of it. On the contrary, many Armenians told Azerbaijani journalists that they had not expected such a delicate attitude on the part of our border guards. There were also those who said that they planned to return to Khankendi after some time. Moreover, there were those who spoke Azerbaijani and warmly remembered their Azerbaijani bosses or colleagues.

In other words, the process of reintegration of the Armenians of the Garabagh economic region into the Azerbaijani legal field is slowly but surely underway. This is the first and most important step towards peace. But Pashinyan again makes a provocative statement against this background.

It is clear that Pashinyan is saying all this, among other things, in anticipation of solid financial assistance from the United States. In this regard, Power's statement that the United States has allocated as much as $33 billion to Armenia since 1992 looks interesting. That is, almost one and a half billion dollars a year! This is how generously the US, which claims to be an arbitrator in any conflicts, has financially gifted the occupying state.

Now, in real-time, Pashinyan is luring the US to the South Caucasus. Free cheese, as we know, comes only in a mousetrap. And the Americans may well ask the Armenians for consent to deploy their military base. I am sure that Tehran is already calculating such options. But Pashinyan seems to be so gripped by fear for his present that he is no longer thinking about the future. And that's a pity. Because tomorrow always comes. And he will have to answer to everyone for his words and his deeds.
