Azerbaijan discusses sustainable urban development at UN-habitat assembly in Kenya PHOTO
A delegation from the Republic of Azerbaijan, led by Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture, is participating in the Third Session of the UN-Habitat Assembly in Nairobi, Kenya.
According to Caliber.Az, the session, taking place on November 25–26, has seen delegates discuss a range of organisational, financial, programme-related and administrative matters concerning UN-Habitat.
Co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Working Group on the “Housing for All” resolution also addressed the assembly.

During the session, Anar Guliyev presented the positions of the newly elected co-chairs representing Azerbaijan and Somalia. The co-chair mandate was granted in line with the decision of the second session held in October 2025.
Guliyev highlighted the Working Group’s contribution to global housing policy and outlined the key initiatives Azerbaijan and Somalia plan to pursue in the coming period. He also summarised the outcomes of the second session, reviewing progress to date and setting priorities for the next stage.
The UN-Habitat Assembly serves as the highest decision-making body on sustainable urban development and housing policy.
It brings together UN member states and key partners to discuss global urbanisation challenges, shape strategic agendas, and advance initiatives aimed at achieving Sustainable Development Goal 11: making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.
