France aims to artificially inflate electorate in New Caledonia Baku Initiative Group says
Executive director of the Baku Initiative Group Abbas Abbasov has said that France sought to artificially increase the electorate in New Caledonia to serve its own interests, but recent actions have curtailed this process.
Abbasov made these remarks at a press conference in Baku, Caliber.Az reports.
“France's deployment of troops to New Caledonia and the imposition of a curfew are unjustified. The presence of the French military in the Pacific region aligns with France's geostrategic goals. In 3-5 years, we may witness positive outcomes from the actions taken in New Caledonia. The activity of the Baku Initiative Group and our strong criticism of France's actions will also influence this process,” he added.
The Baku Initiative Group, which was established on July 6, 2023, during the ministerial meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement chaired by Azerbaijan, has played a crucial role in supporting independence movements. BIG has already organised up to 15 international conferences, including sessions at the UN headquarters in New York, Geneva, and Vienna, as well as in Istanbul and Baku, aiming to highlight colonialism as a persistent global issue in the 21st century.
