Armenian claims at UN, French ambassador’s tweets cannot erase Azerbaijani heritage Statement by Western Azerbaijan Community
The Western Azerbaijan Community has issued a statement condemning the responses of Armenian representatives at the United Nations and tweets by the French Ambassador to Armenia, emphasizing that such actions cannot erase Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage.
"Neither the hysterical responses of Armenian representatives at the UN nor the absurd tweets of a racist-leaning French Ambassador to Armenia can destroy the ancient history and rich cultural heritage of the Azerbaijani people," the statement declares, Caliber.Az reports.
The response came in light of discussions during Armenia's periodic report review at the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. During the session, UN experts raised concerns about the deportation of Azerbaijanis from Armenia and the destruction of Azerbaijani cultural heritage within the country.
The Azerbaijani Community highlighted the intolerant attitude of the Armenian delegation, including their outright denial of the Blue Mosque's belonging to the Azerbaijani people, as a glaring example of deeply entrenched Azerbaijanophobia and fabricated notions of "ethnic exclusivity" within Armenian society. Such behaviour, the Community noted, starkly contradicts Yerevan's claims of seeking normalization of relations with Baku.
“The UN committee has also expressed concern about hate-filled speeches by politicians and officials in Yerevan, and we regard this as recognition of racism in Armenia against Azerbaijanis. We call on UN experts to keep the issue of Azerbaijanophobia in Armenia in the centre of attention and regularly monitor the media and Internet space of this country,” the statement reads.
The Community also urged relevant UN bodies to address the rights of Western Azerbaijanis that were violated due to their deportation from Armenia. It called for concrete recommendations for Armenia to rectify these injustices.
